Bollywood has become one of the huge film industries in the world today and they are even producing more films than its close competitor Hollywood in the recent years. The person behind a film artistic, who visualizes the script, guides the technical crew and actors, and directs the dramatic aspect of a film is one of the most important key member in the making of a film. This is the person who chooses the cast members, has a role in production design of a film, and gives overall direction to all cast members and crew in order to realize the primary vision. Many directors in the film industry started either as screenwriters, an actor, film editor, cinematographer, or just went to a professional film director schools. 10. Rakesh Roshan
One of the key figures in Bollywood is none other than Rakesh Roshan who was quit famous as a former actor in 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. As an actor he has appeared in more than 85 films such as Seema 1971, Pyaara Dushman 1980, Akele Hum Akele Tum 1995 among many others. Rakesh apart from being an actor and a notable director he is also a producer as well. He has produced films under the banner Filmkraft Productions Pvt. He might be no more but yash has been a legend who has immortalized himself by directing one of the most famous and even today holds the position one in popularity in the category of romantic movies “Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge”. He started his career as an assistant director to his elder brother B.R.Chopra and directed his first film “Dhool ka phool”1959. His success came as a result of a successful drama “Waqt” 1965, and in 6 years he founded Yah Raj Film Production Company. Some of the films he directed are “Chandni”, “Lamhe”, “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, among many others. He is the founder of motion pictures production and Distribution Company.
One of the best screen writers, a director and a producer as well with over 100 films both in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu language is Priyadarshan. He has set a record in Bollywood for making 26 films in Hindi language all by himself which is a big achievement for a Bollywood Director. He is very popular in the genre of comedy, although he has done a few films in action and thriller genres. Some of the films he has directed are Chithram, Mithunam, Thalavattam, Kanchivaram, Tabu, Paresh Rawal, among many others. Due to his contribution towards the arts he has been honored by the government of India with Padma Shri, and other accolades as well. In addition to wealth from films he has been engaged with endorsement deals with major companies such as Coca Cola, American Express, Parker Pens, and Nokia among others.
7. Rajkumar Hirani
One of the best directors Bollywood has and a skilled film editor who has made a name for himself is Rajkumar Hirani. Maybe you haven’t watched a film “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003)” but this was his breakthrough film to success and moreover it was one of the best-selling film making Rs.25 million in Indian market alone. Other hit movies directed by Rajkumar and probably you have watched due to their popularity in India and overseas markets and the fact that they kept the record for becoming the highest grossing Indian films in history are “3 Idiots”, “Lage Raho”, “PK” among others. His success in these four films has made him win 11 Filmfare Awards and 4 National Film Awards among many other accolades.

Mohit career started as an assistant director and directed an average film in relation to commercial success in 2005 “Zeher”.later on he directed two of best successful films in relation to commercial success that have built a name for him till date the “Kalyug” 2005 and “Awarapan” 2005. Other films he has directed are Who Lamhe 2006, Raaz-the mystery continues 2009, Ek Villain 2014, Murder 2 2011, Aashiqui 2 2013, Hamari Adhuri Kahani 2015 among others.
5. Arbaz Khan
Bollywood industry has been over the years ruled by Khans who have made a name for themselves. However Arbaz khan is not as successful as the other Khans but still he has made a significant impact in the industry. His most successful work was with Arbaax Khan Productions when he produced the second highest grossing Bollywood film of all time the “Dabangg” in 2010. The son of the acclaimed producer Yash Johar grew up to be a screenwriter, television personality, costume designer, producer, an actor as well as a director. His directorial career debut started back in 1998 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which not only won him a filmfare award of the Best Director but also Best Screenplay. He is one of the best directors Bollywood has today. He started off his career as a cinematographer for discovery channel before making a directorial debut with documentary “The forgotten Army” 1999. In 2006 he made his film directorial debut and started with the “Kabul express” 2006, New York 2009, phantom 2015 but his most successful film was Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2015 since it took the second position in the category of highest grossing Indian films globally. Apart from being a successful director he is also a film producer as well.
2. Farhan Akhtar
Among the richest directors and also a man with many skills such as screen writing, producing, acting, singer, lyricist and also a television host is Farhan Akhtar. his career began in Bollywood in 1990s working as an assistant director and making two films named Lamhe 1991 and Putra 1997. After founding Excell Entertainment Production Company he started directing films and his directorial debut film was Dil Chahta Hai 2001 which won a national award. Other films he has directed are Lakshya 2004, Bride and Prejudice 2004, Don 2006, and positive 2007.
