10. Arunachal Pradesh
At the 10th position in the list of citrus producing states is Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh is to the northeast of India. One fruit that is produced in last quantity and is very important is the Khasi Mandarin. It is usually found in Siang and the areas surrounding it. Acid lime is one of the citrus fruits which is now being increasing especially in the areas of Arunachal Pradesh. It is situated in a place where there is a climate similar to a tropical region to sub-tropical region. 9. Andhra Pradesh
At the 09th position in the list of citrus producing states in India in Andhra Pradesh. The two most important fruits which are commercially grown in this region are acid lime and sweet orange. Some other citrus fruits like mandarins, lemons, and pumeloes are only found in certain areas. This state has an approximate 2 lakh hectares of area. It produces somewhere around 3.50 million tons yearly and is known to be the highest state producing acid lime. The climate is very congenial for the cultivation of citrus. Some of the cities in Andhra Pradesh where citrus fruits are grown as follows Vijayawada, Ananathapur, Rangareddy, Nelgonda.
At the 08th position in the list of the production of citrus fruits is Gujarat. Gujarat is known for the production of many unique fruits. Citrus fruits are one of the many fruits which is a major part of the production of these fruits. The major regions where citrus fruits can be found in the state of Gujarat are Ahmedabad, Mehsana, Bhavnagar, Kheda. These regions are mainly known for the production of Lemon. The total annual production of this state in citrus fruits is 385.6 to the overall production of citrus.
7. Jammu Kashmir
At the 07th position in the list of production of citrus in India are Jammu and Kashmir. The state at the top of India is known for its production of the citrus crops. It is mainly located in Samba, Rajouri, Kathua and Jammu districts which are about 73% of the overall area. But it is said that the growth is slower than what it could be because this state faces a lot of constraints and the farmers are not able to produce a lot of this crops. This state has a total area of 12.8 hectares and it produces almost 19.2 million of these citrus fruits annually.
At the 06th position in the list of production of the citrus fruits in India is the state of Manipur which is located in the northeast part of India. The state of Manipur has the total area of 6 hectares and it produces annually up to 46.7 million citrus fruits. Manipur is especially known for the cultivation of Wild Oranges. This is found in the district of Chandel. There is another type of lemon which is known as Kachai Lime which is found in this state. This particular tree is known to look very beautiful and attractive during the flowering season.
5. Tamil Nadu
At the 05th position in the list of production of the citrus fruits in India is the state of Tamil Nadu which is a state in the southern part of India. Tamil Nadu has the total area of 17.9. The total production in this state is 53.6 towards the total production of citrus fruits of the country. There are different types of citrus fruits which can be found in the state of Tamil Nadu. Lemon can be seen grown in large quantity in the regions of Trichy and Dindigul. Though Mosambi isn’t found in the state of Tamil Nadu a lot there is a mild amount of production of organs in the regions of Dindigul, Salem, and Nilgiris. Nilgiris provides the best climate and topography for the production of certain citrus fruits because it is located in the hilly areas.
At the 04th position in the list of production of the citrus in India is the state of Karnataka. One of the most famous types of citrus which is grown in the state of Karnataka is a variety of pomelo which is called devanahalli. It is especially found in taluka of Devanahalli which is around Bengaluru. The districts of Bijapur, Kodagu, and Chikmagalore is known for the cultivation of Mosambi, Satgudi and Blood Red which are the varieties of mosambi around this region. The state of Karnataka has an area of 15.1 hectares. The annual production of citrus fruits in this state is around 312.5 million.
3. Madhya Pradesh
At the 03rd position in the list of citrus fruits grown in India in Madhya Pradesh. Some of the districts where Orange Mandarin can be specifically found are Shajapur, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Chhindwada, and Betul. These places are prominently known for the production of mandarins. The varieties of citrus which are found in this region are of best quality and the soil, topography and the climate is very conducive for the production of these citrus fruits. The state of Madhya Pradesh has a total area of 38.3 hectares and it has an annual production of 677.8 million from the overall production of the citrus fruit of the country.
At the second position in the list of the top citrus producing states in India is the state of Rajasthan. The districts of Shriganganagar and Kota and Jhalawada are known for their cultivation of mosambis. The different varieties of mosambis which can be found are the study, mosambi and blood red. Then places such as Alwar, Jaipur, and Bharatpur are known for its cultivation of Lime. Some of the varieties of lime which are commonly found are Mexican lime, keylime, Mithachikna and Mithotra lime etc. Apart from this, there are oranges which can be found in places such as Kota and Jhalawada. This state provides a perfect climate and soil for the production of these types of citrus fruits. This state has a total area of 18.6 hectares and the annual production of this state is somewhere around 312.7 million.
At the first position in the list of top citrus producing states is the state of Maharashtra. The city of Nagpur is especially known for its production of Orange. It is known the orange city because of its world-famous oranges which are grown in this city. These mandarins which are a type of oranges are specifically best suited for the regions such as Vidarbha. Apart from Nagpur the other regions where oranges are grown in Maharashtra are Akola, Amravati, and Wardha. The production of citrus is not limited to this. Places such as Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Pune, Amravati, Ahmednagar are known for their productions of Mosambi also known as sweet lime. Lemon can be found in the Pune, Beed, Aurangabad, Beed, Nagpur, Solapur in the state of Maharashtra. This state has a total area of 287.6 hectares and the annual production of the citrus fruit is 1725.1 towards the total production.
These above-mentioned fruits are grown in many other regions but are predominantly found in the above-mentioned places. These fruits need to taken care of while cultivation because there are different types of diseases of citrus which can destroy the crops. With any type of plantation, it is necessary to establish and take important measure for its healthy growth.
