Traffic jam is a menace in most busy cities in the world but some places beat them all. In some cities personal cars are not even allowed and the only means of travel available is the taxis. New York is one such city. While other places the main means of travel within the city is by use of bicycles for example in Shanghai, the main most popular city in China. This reduces traffic and boosts physical fitness. Other countries which have embraced cycling as a means of transport to control and reduce traffic jam include Finland, Norway, Japan, Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands which is the full definition of a cycling nation. In Netherlands 90% of the locals have bicycles, therefore traffic jam is not a huge problem however, let us look at some of the places where traffic is bad.

The city is found in the United States of America. The traffic is so bad in that city and it has topped the list two years in a row. The streets are very small and thus they get congested pretty fast. The city’s traffic is much more than that of New York and San Francisco as well. By each passing year the percentage of congestion keeps going up because nothing is done to counter the congestion in the city.
Chengdu is in China. Unlike Shanghai city where people use bicycles to get around the city, Chengdu is congested and the traffic is horrible there. The traffic rate also keeps on widening as the years go by because people will keep on buying cars while the roads remain the same. No expansions made to accommodate the cars. China also has a high population rate which also contributes to the state of congestion in the country as well as the traffic.
Recife is in Brazil. The city is a commercial hub with many of the country’s trade activities taking place in this area. There are also many centers for education and health hence the place is always bustling with activity. The industrial area has booming businesses dealing in oil production, sugarcane and even electronics therefore many people come in and out of the city on a daily basis. The morning traffic and the evening rush hour has the worst traffic jam.
Salvador is a city in Brazil. The population in Brazil is very high hence it is only natural that the country will face traffic challenges. The traffic in this place is so bad especially in the morning and in the evenings when people are most likely going and coming back from work. As the years go by the traffic keeps getting worse and worse. The roads are always busy because of the many motorists struggling to get from one destination to the other.
This city is the capital of Romania. The city has the worst traffic in Romania. AS a capital the city is home to a lot of trade centers, schools, hotels, hospital centers, governmental buildings and businesses as well and so traffic towards the city is always very heavy. Traffic jams here will cost you about one to two wasted hours each day because of the high level of congestion. The evening traffic is the worst.
The city is found in Russia and it also serve as the capital of that city. The city has one of the worst challenges with traffic jam. The streets are crowded and people have to waste a lot of time just from travelling from one place to the other. The traffic even gets worse in case of a slight change in the weather for example excess snow or rain, it significantly slows down the rate of movement on the roads. This capital has got a very bad record of traffic jam.

The city is in Brazil. The country of Brazil could easily pass for the country with the one of the worst traffic records in the world mainly because the population in the country is high hence the number of motorists are also many. As the years go by the number of motorists keep increasing while the roads remain the same. The mornings and the evenings are the worst times to get caught up in traffic. The country is yet to introduce ways of curbing traffic in the city in order to make transportation easier.
Istanbul in Turkey might be one of the most spectacular destinations to visit but the traffic jam in this city is still a menace. It is reported that drivers waste almost more than one hundred and twenty hours in traffic every year. The city is congested and slow movement is registered along the highways mainly during the evenings during the rush hour. The mornings are also very slow because the roads are still congested at that time as well.
Bangkok, which is the capital of Thailand is a very populous city. The traffic in the city is also very bad because of the high population rate. Though they have tries to ease traffic by putting up express ways it is still challenging to get around fast. The city comes in at second place in the list of the places with the most traffic jam. Because of the congestion in this city, the traffic keeps getting worse by the years. The morning and evening hours are the worst hit by traffic.
1. Mexico City
Mexico City tops the list with the worst traffic in the whole world. The city is congested with vehicles which keep increasing each year. The City is small but populous, hence the congestion. It is reported that drivers waste an average of almost more than two hundred hours on the road in traffic every single year. The country would do well to encourage other means of transport in order to curb the existing traffic menace they are currently dealing with. The city receives a lot of tourists from other countries as well also contributing to congestion and traffic jam on the roads.
Venice in Italy use boats as a means of transport around the city therefore they are able to avoid traffic jam. If places such as the ones mentioned above would create alternative means of transport for the locals then they would be able to reduce traffic jam by a substantial percentage. Some of the ways they could reduce traffic jam is by building under ways, bridge ways and also investing in a great train system.
